Three Kingdoms(San Guo) is a novel written by Luo Guanzhon in China circa
AD1300-1400. It is based on the end of the Han Dynasty(206BC-220AD)and centers
around three generals, Liu Bei, Guan Yu, and Zhang Fei, became brothers in a peach
orchard, and who later helped each other quell the Yellow Scarves rebellion.
It was written so that storytellers could tell it, and so when you read it,
you can almost imagine a storyteller telling it. Extreme hyperbole is used to
glorify certain characters abilities, such as Guan Yu weilding a 115 lbs sword.
There have been several video games based on this story, including Koei's "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" series and a little game on the NES called "Destiny of an Emperor"(which is what originally got me interested several years ago.) There is also a new fighting game on the Sony Playstation called "Dynasty Warriors".
